The Most Mysterious Forests of Europe

Destinations, Trip Inspiration

For those who seek mystery and the thrill of fantasy-ridden fear (or wonder), these forests may be calling. The woods beckon thee, friend…

Black Forest, Germany

This forest in southwestern Germany is brimming with legend. Witches and nymphs cackle in the night, and dark pathways go to dark places. That’s what they say, anyway. The actual people here live in beautiful, quaint villages nestled in the mix.

Hoia-Baciu Forest, Romania

This most haunted of forests is often called the “Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania”. UFO sightings and unexplainable events are supposed to frequently occur here, and it is said that in the center there is a perfectly circular clearing where paranormal activity is strongest.

Hallerbos, Belgium

In this forest we find ourselves not in a nightmare but rather a fairytale laden with blue bell flowers in Spring. The flowers go on for miles on end with the trees, and you might hope to see an elf rather than a witch.

Happy wandering! And good luck…
