The Falklands Islands of the South Atlantic are roughly 4 times the size of Rhode Island, but their population is under 3000. There are, however, 1500 King penguins in their largest and most accessible colony on Earth; and they number the least among the five penguin species who inhabit the islands. The surrounding waters are fairly treacherous, certainly, and the beaches less than ideal for a day at the shore. But the wilderness is plentiful and expansive, with scarce a human soul to be found.
