Return to the Burn: Snowboarding in the Sidecountry

Destinations, iReports

We got a few inches of fresh powder last night, so naturally we had to hit the slopes. My friend decided to let me ride his powder board (again) and we made our way to the top of our favorite powder run.

We did one run (about 3000 vertical feet) and looped back for another. The first was full of deep snow to ride and big trees to dodge. The above photo is at the very top.

For the second run we made our way to the Burn: a massive section of dead trees burnt to prevent wildfires. The riding is nuts, but the walk out is long and the last few hundred feet very difficult to ride.

This rock field, for instance, is practically unrideable. I ended up having to unstrap and walk down. But damn, is that powder worth it.
