Pha That Luang: the Centerpiece of Laos

Destinations, Trip Inspiration

In the very center of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, lies a monument so sacred that it’s on the national seal. Though it has been reconstructed several times throughout history, its form has remained approximately the same since its original creation in the 3rd century C.E.

The center of the monument is a Buddhist stupa covered in gold flakes (the entire monument used to be covered in these before it was razed to the ground for the third time or so), and there are two temples around it, with various statues and curiosities.

If you happen to be in Laos anytime, this place is a must see–though I’ve heard that the museum entry price isn’t quite worth it when the place is even more spectacular outside.
