Montaña de Oro State Park: the Saving Grace of San Luis Obispo

Destinations, iReports
Here’s a too-perfect photo of a beautiful and somber place: Montaña de Oro State Park. I vaguely recall climbing along the edges of it with a friend as we explored miles of short cliffs and jagged rocks.
Paths like this extend along the edges of those cliffs throughout the park. I’ve only walked on them a couple of times and not very far at that. But they are peaceful.
These sand dunes are way bigger than they first appear. It’s not the Jersey Shore, so you’re actually allowed to climb all the way up and down them. Or maybe you’d prefer to run down–or even ride down on a sled whose underside has been rubbed with wax. I’ve spent most of my time in this park over here.
